In Memory of LaMont Shillinger
October 11, 1943 - May 05, 2020
It is with a heavy heart that we mark the passing of LaMont Shillinger. He has been a long time volunteer with Habitat for Humanity of Grays Harbor. He and his wife, Barb, first started volunteering with Habitat during the introductory meeting in Saron Lutheran Church in Hoquiam in 2001. LaMont and Barb were regularly seen working at the Habitat information booth at the Grays Harbor County Fair and at the Elephant Ears booth at the various county festivals. Lamont had a great sense of humor and he shared up fun stories and insights as we fried up Elephant Ears at the fair.
LaMont was also known for his cookies. We could always count on delicious platefuls of LaMont’s cookies at every Habitat house dedication ceremony. And we could always count on the trays being empty before the end of the ceremony!
LaMont’s generous nature led him to volunteer with other groups in the community as well including Feed the Hungry, the Clothing Bank, the Salvation Army, Lion’s Club, and the Aberdeen Museum. Through his volunteerism, LaMont showed his loving kindness to everyone in the community.
Thank you for sharing your kind heart, good humor and delicious cookies with us through the years, LaMont. You will be greatly missed by all of us at Habitat for Humanity of Grays Harbor who were blessed to know you.

How does the Habitat Store divert items from landfills?
You may already know about Habitat for Humanity of Grays Harbor and how it provides affordable housing to local families. But you might be surprised how shopping and supporting the Store home improvement outlets helped divert over 292,856 pounds of refuse from being thrown in landfills for 2019.
Habitat for Humanity Grays Harbor Store, located in Hoquiam, provides the public with new and gently used home improvement products and building materials. From lighting, furniture, doors, windows, appliances, cabinets, and tools, it’s the perfect place to shop for deals on small projects or your upcoming home remodel.
When items are donated to the Store from individuals, building supply stores, contractors, or other businesses, they are then sold at a discounted price to the public. Items too nice to throw away, can now be enjoyed again or upcycled.
It gets better
The Habitat Store volunteers also collect and sort metals that can be recycled from non-salable items. Copper tubing, faucets, and other items are broken down and separated into buckets.
Discounts for customers
When shopping in the store there are discounts that you can get by checking into Facebook and telling your friends you are here. We also offer "Wheel Wednesday's" where you can spin to win discounts up to 75% off. The Habitat Store has a new game on Monday's called Flip It Deal, where you can choose a house # and see what the discount is under the door. We also offer discounts of 20% to Military, Seniors and First Responders. In 2019 customers who shopped at Habitat for Humanity of Grays Harbor Store had discounts that totaled up to $30,000.
A world where everyone has a decent place to live.
